Discipleship
The discipleship process is more than teaching people the right knowledge about God. A disciple models him or herself after someone. Making disciples of Jesus goes beyond teaching facts about Jesus. It means teaching people how to know and be like Jesus — to obey God and seek His best for their lives.
A message about Discipleship & Level Up from Pastor Jim Webb:
When I combine the reminder of discipled education in our faith with the vapid expressions of spiritualism in our modern world; It creates a challenge within my heart. I have expressed this challenge with our company of pastors and various committees all of which agree that there is a need for expanded Christian education uniquely now. They also agreed that we are all in different places of growth within our discipleship journeys. What may challenge and satisfy one group may not be what is needed for others. We are at different levels of need for lack of a better term. From this discussion and collaboration, the concept of ‘Level Up’ was revealed. So, with this idea in mind, our Christian education format will begin a new adaptation to all classes based upon levels of teaching.

Levels are L1, L2, L3, and L4
which reflect the diversity of our membership
and their journey in discipleship.

John: the gospel of FAITH w/ Pastor Emeritus Bob Dooling
Sundays 11:30 am Room 100
“The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and tht by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name. (John 20:30-31)
The Gospel of John stands apart from the other three Gospels both in style and theological depth, offering a richly reflective portrait of Jesus Christ as God incarnate. Rather than focusing primarily on chronological narrative, John presents a carefully structured account centered on signs, sermons, prayers and symbolic language that reveal Jesus’ identity and mission. Themes such as light and darkness, belief and unbelief, and life through the Son are woven throughout the text, inviting readers into a deep personal engagement.
Many contemporary Christians find the Gospel of John offensive because its theological emphases challenge modern sensibilities about inclusivity, authority, and truth. John presents Jesus not merely as a moral teacher but as the exclusive and divine Logos, insisting that “no one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6), a claim that clashes with pluralistic assumptions common in many Protestant contexts today. Additionally, the Gospel’s stark contrasts—light versus darkness, belief versus unbelief—can feel rigid or judgmental to readers accustomed to more nuanced or therapeutic religious language. John’s high Christology, strong claims about divine election, and its polemical tone toward “the world” and religious opponents further unsettle those who prefer a less confrontational or more culturally accommodating expression of faith.
This course will examine the Gospel of John within its historical, literary, and theological contexts. Students will explore questions of authorship, audience, and purpose, while also engaging closely with the text’s distinctive vocabulary and narrative techniques. Special attention will be given to the “I Am” sayings, the Book of Signs and the Book of Glory.
In the process, we will discover that we are faced with a stark choice. To paraphrase C.S. Lewis, Jesus is either who John says he is, or he is a charlatan, or he is a madman.
