Discipleship

The discipleship process is more than teaching people the right knowledge about God. A disciple models him or herself after someone. Making disciples of Jesus goes beyond teaching facts about Jesus. It means teaching people how to know and be like Jesus — to obey God and seek His best for their lives.

A message about Discipleship & Level Up from Pastor Jim Webb:

When I combine the reminder of discipled education in our faith with the vapid expressions of spiritualism in our modern world; It creates a challenge within my heart.  I have expressed this challenge with our company of pastors and various committees all of which agree that there is a need for expanded Christian education uniquely now.  They also agreed that we are all in different places of growth within our discipleship journeys.  What may challenge and satisfy one group may not be what is needed for others.  We are at different levels of need for lack of a better term.  From this discussion and collaboration, the concept of ‘Level Up’ was revealed.  So, with this idea in mind, our Christian education format will begin a new adaptation to all classes based upon levels of teaching.

LEVEL UP

Levels are L1, L2, L3, and L4
which reflect the diversity of our membership
and their journey in discipleship.

L4: Theological Turning Points: Nicea

Meets Sundays 11:30am - 12:30pm in Room 100

Instructor Pastor Emeritus Bob Dooling

The Road to Nicaea

As Twenty-First Century Christians, we confess our faith using the words of the Nicene Creed which from first to last is a thoroughly Trinitarian document.  Its mysterious math confesses that there is only One God, but that God exists in three separate and distinct persons.

What we will do during our five-week-long session is travel the Road from Jerusalem to Nicaea. Along the way we will explore the questions raised by Jesus’ person and work, and discover why the church, born out of the radical and militant monotheism of Judaism, adopted what we now know as trinitarian language to describe God.
