"The Righteous Shall Live By Faith"
Led by Pastor Emeritus Bob Dooling
SUNDAYS 11:00am - 12:00pm
Meets in Youth Room 100

Paul wrote his Letter to the Romans several years before the Four Gospels were written in the last decades of the first century. In his letter, he spells out the deepest meaning of those soon-to-be-written works – namely that through the Father’s love, Jesus’ Passion, and the Spirit’s Application of the work of Christ, we human beings can have a right relationship with God by faith alone. If this is true, it is, of course, very good news.”

Our primary source will be the book itself, but RC Sproul’s expositional commentary (The Righteous Shall Live By Faith) will be our primary guide.
I also recommend that you purchase one of the following more textual commentaries as an additional resource: Romans: God’s Good News for the World by John Stott; Paul’s Letter to the Romans by Colin G. Kruse; The Epistle to the Romans by Leon Morris; or The Letter to the Romans – a Short Commentary by Frederick Dale Bruner. (There will be made available in the MVPC library 2 copies of each book for you to borrow if you like.)
Please consider joining us in what will certainly be a great adventure.

Women's Bible Study
The Myth of Righteous Anger
Led by Terry Shores
TUESDAYS 7:00 - 8:30pm
Meets in Meeting Room 1
This class runs alongside the Men's Bible Study on Tuesday nights.

This class will be using the book "Unoffendable" by Brant Hansen as we delve into The Myth of Righteous Anger.

Not entitled to get angry? Really?
It’s a radical, provocative idea: We’re not entitled to get offended or stay angry. The idea of our own “righteous anger” is a myth. It is the number one problem in our societies today and, as Dallas Willard says, Christians have not been taught out of it.
As it turns out, giving up our “right” to be offended can be one of the most freeing, healthy, simplifying, relaxing, refreshing, stress-relieving, and encouraging things we can do.

In Unoffendable readers will find something of immeasurable value—a concrete, practical way to live life with less stress. They’ll adjust their expectations to fit human nature and replace perpetual anger with refreshing humility and gratitude.

The book offers a unique viewpoint, challenging the idea that Christians can ever harbor “righteous anger” or that there even is such a thing for believers.
Few other books exist with such a radical, provocative proposal to consider. We have no right to anger. We are to get rid of it, period. Completely. And it is possible to choose to be “unoffendable.”

Through the author’s winsome, humorous, and conversational style, this book doesn’t add another thing to do on a stressed-out person’s ever-growing list. Better, it actually seeks to lift religious burdens from readers’ backs and allow them to experience the joy of gratitude, perhaps for the first time, every single day of their lives.

Men's Bible Study
Joshua
The Power of God's Promises
Led by CRE Pastor Larry Shores
Tuesdays 7:00 - 8:30pm
Meets in Library
This group is a way to get connected and encouraged while studying the Scriptures. It runs along side of the Women's Bible Study on Tuesday nights.

Tucked away in the twenty-first chapter of Joshua is an astonishing summary of the book: “Thus the Lord gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And they took possession of it, and they settled there” (21:43). The key words in this sentence—give and gave—are repeated throughout the book. We should read the book of Joshua in order to behold the Lord who makes great promises and who keeps every promise he makes.

Sunday Afternoon Bible Study
COLOSSIANS
The Supremacy of Christ
Led by CRE Pastor Shores
Sundays 2:00-3:00pm
Meets in Meeting Room 1
In writing to the Colossian brethren, Paul describes the supremacy of Christ to a church that had begun to drift away from the faith. False teachers had crept in and began teaching a gospel that mixed together: Greek philosophical ideas, Pagan cultic practices, Jewish religious traditions along with the teachings of Christianity. These men blended all of these components into a "new" gospel which, they claimed, would give people a more dynamic spiritual experience. Instead of faith practiced in loving obedience as Jesus had taught.
Paul's point here is – who needs human philosophy and cultural rituals and human effort when the Supreme Lord has personally undertaken the task of saving those who were condemned to death by sin? No amount of human wisdom and effort could accomplish what the Supreme Lord had accomplished for them – and for us!
