"The Righteous Shall Live By Faith"
by RC Sproul

Led by Pastor Emeritus Bob Dooling

SUNDAYS 11:00am - 12:00pm
Meets in Youth Room 100

Paul wrote his Letter to the Romans several years before the Four Gospels were written in the last decades of the first century. In his letter, he spells out the deepest meaning of those soon-to-be-written works – namely that through the Father’s love, Jesus’ Passion, and the Spirit’s Application of the work of Christ, we human beings can have a right relationship with God by faith alone. If this is true, it is, of course, very good news.”

Our primary source will be the book itself, but RC Sproul’s expositional commentary (The Righteous Shall Live By Faith) will be our primary guide.

I also recommend that you purchase one of the following more textual commentaries as an additional resource: Romans: God’s Good News for the World by John Stott; Paul’s Letter to the Romans by Colin G. Kruse; The Epistle to the Romans by Leon Morris; or The Letter to the Romans – a Short Commentary by Frederick Dale Bruner. (There will be made available in the MVPC library 2 copies of each book for you to borrow if you like.)

Please consider joining us in what will certainly be a great adventure.

Men's Tuesday Night  Bible Study

"Live Not By Lies" by Rod Dreher

Led by CRE Pastor Larry Shores

TUESDAYS 7:00 - 8:30pm
Meets in Library

This class runs alongside the Women's Bible Study on Tuesday nights.

Pastor Larry Shores will be leading this study as we bring up topics from the book and then dive straight into the Bible to see what our God has to say.  It will certainly make you stop and think!

YOU DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE THE BOOK (but you may get it on your own if you so desire.) Please bring your Bible to class!

In Live Not By Lies, Dreher amplifies the alarm sounded by the brave men and women who fought totalitarianism. He explains how the totalitarianism facing us today is based less on overt violence and more on psychological manipulation. He tells the stories of modern-day dissidents—clergy, laity, martyrs, and confessors from the Soviet Union and the captive nations of Europe—who offer practical advice for how to identify and resist totalitarianism in our time. Following the model offered by a prophetic World War II-era pastor who prepared believers in his Eastern European to endure the coming of communism, Live Not By Lies teaches American Christians a method for resistance.

Women's Tuesday Night Bible Study

Led by Pastor Tracee Hackel

TUESDAYS 7:00 - 8:30pm
Meets in Meeting Room 1

This class runs alongside the Men's Bible Study on Tuesday nights.

If you are feeling tempted, tired, or otherwise overwhelmed with the cares and concerns of this world, you may need to be reminded to lift your eyes from your circumstances and focus them upon Christ. That is precisely what the apostle Paul does in the book of Colossians. He lifts our gaze from our present circumstances to see Christ in all of his glory. Christ is the pearl of great value, the hidden treasure who is worth selling all to receive. Colossians presents this glorious picture to remind us that this world is not our home.

Why study the Bible?  How can I study the Bible and learn from it? The Bible is not just for theologians and scholars. Rather, it is God’s Word in plain language intended for everyone. Together, we will explore the importance of Bible study and its relevance to everyday life. Far from being a stuffy or boring book, the Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God, helpful in building us up so that we may serve, love, and glorify God and His Son, Jesus Christ, as we are intended to do.  Pastor Tracee will help to guide us through learning different methods that will help us in our study!

All you need to bring to class is your Bible, a pen, and an open heart! Notebook will be provided!

(If you are in need of a Bible, please reach out at our first class and we will provide one free of charge!)
